Overthinking is simply the act of thinking about something too much for a very long time, overthinking for a long period of time can cause anxiety, in fact, the studies have shown that overthinking elevates your stress levels, reduces your creativity, clouds your judgment and strips you of your power to make decisions. When you overthink, thoughts run into your mind in a cycle and you eventually start blaming yourself for things that might never happen. When human minds overthink, it can go to any extent for example you think of a very happy moment that happened or is about to happen in your life and you turn that happy moment into the saddest moment of your life. Overthinking tires your mind to an extent which only a very extreme physical exercise can do to your body. Thinking extensively about something can lead your mind to extreme tiredness and hence no sleep. Sleep deprived people are tend to overthink more. So basically, this is a love-hate relationship. If you overthink you can’t sleep but if you can’t sleep you overthink.

So, what can we do to stop overthinking?

1. Change how you talk to yourself- simply by changing your attitude towards yourself you can improve this habit very efficiently. Just by talking positive to yourself and trying not to think about negative things.
2. Let go – these two words people take very lightly but when you realize the worth of these words and you let go of the past overthinking habits can be improved to a great extent.
3. Be in the present – if you are always like “what if” or “I wish I” you will stay with the habit of overthinking.
4. Manage your stress- whenever you feel overwhelmed with thoughts go out for a walk, disconnect for a while, socialize, meet new people and let go of the thoughts in your head.

In conclusion by practicing these things and letting go of your thoughts you can become the greatest version of yourself and finally have a good nights sleep.

Until next time insomniacs, try not to overthink and try to sleep

Peace out!
