Does exam anxiety prevent you from sleeping? You aren't the only one suffering.
Getting a good sleep before exams is important. But when you want to sleep, and all the anxiety and fear of your exams take over, sleeping gets tough. Luckily insomniacs are here with some tips you can follow to get a sound of 7-8 hours of sleep even on your exam days.
Make time for your sleep:
You must make time for your sleep. You cannot expect to get a good night's sleep if you stay up till 1 or 2 in the morning. Set a proper bedtime and abide by it, even on exam days. Disturbing your sleep schedule even for a day can severely affect the quality of sleep you get.
Try not to stress about the exam.
Stressing out about your exam can be one of the major reasons you are not able to sleep properly. Try different breathing techniques to keep your stress levels low.
Even meditation has proven to be helpful and can help you get a sound of 7-8 hours of sleep.
What you eat can affect your sleep.
What you eat matters. There are certain foods, using which the body produces melatonin, a hormone that controls sleep, and eating such foods can help you get a good night's rest. Drinking warm milk before bed can do wonders.
Moreover, A full stomach can keep you from sleeping. But that does not mean you should go to sleep hungry. Try to have a big dinner for at least 2 or 3 hours before you sleep.
Avoid Coffee
It sounds like a no-brainer but avoids coffee if you want to sleep in peace. Not just coffee, any caffeinated drink after 4-5 pm will affect your sleep the night. Caffeine is supposed to keep you up, so a cup of coffee in the morning can be your best friend, but the same cup at night can be your worst enemy
Get away from your phone.
The blue light emitted by the screen of your phones, tablets, and computers can mess with your body's internal clock (circadian rhythm). Moreover, the blue light also delays the release of melatonin, and without melatonin, the sleep you get is just not refreshing at all. So put down your phone or computer well before you want to go to bed.
Lastly, you need to relax and understand the fact that it is just an exam. Sure, exams are super important, but nothing is more important than you're well-being. Keeping yourself, mentally and physically healthy and happy should be a top priority. And if you are mentally and physically healthy and happy, there will be nothing that you will not be able to get over.
